The Free Lance-Star Online Edition

Project

Deedod was approached by The Free Lance-Star Publishing Company to help create a premier tablet edition of its daily newspaper. After working through a focused discovery phase, our team kicked into high gear to deliver above and beyond expectations set for the project.

Execution

From concept development through launch, our team was responsible for the design, frontend development, and backend API integration. Being that The FLS is headquartered in Fredericksburg, Deedod's hometown, we jumped at every opportunity to collaborate with its team in person.

Knowing that the company's primary audience was comprised of paper subscribers, we brought our expertise to the table as we worked closely with The FLS team on product development, content strategy, and distribution.

Result

The Free Lance-Star online experience features a robust archival system that enables users to read the paper from any previous day, along with an ability to browse editions from days and months past. What's more, the resulting user interface features a convenient color coding system which enables users to navigate the various sections of the online paper edition and find content easily. Overall, the online experience mimics the existing print edition very closely, making it easy for users to navigate and find content in a familiar offline fashion.

Happy Client

"...the guys at Deedod were great to work with as we developed [the] tablet app for Freelancestar.com. We had great idea sessions to get to the heart of the problems we needed to solve with the app, and [they] helped generate solutions that made a lot of sense for us. It resulted in one of the best site product launches I've ever seen in terms of positive customer response and instant traffic generation."
